Coast to Coast Bike Ride 2013
Jul 26, 2013
In July I was part of a group from TeleWare who successfully completed the UK’s famous W2W coast to coast cycle route. It’s the fourth year in a row that we’ve cycled a variant of the cross-country route and this year was definitely among one of the best so far.
I couldn’t miss the opportunity to get creative the result of which was this year’s event logo. It looked great of this year’s team polo shirts that the TeleWare treated us to for the occasion – a quick shout-out goes to StreetShirts who were an all-round great supplier.
The ride itself began in Walney, Cumbria on Friday and finished in Sunderland three days later – a total distance of 151 miles. This year, we certainly encountered more challenges than in previous rides, the main one being the extreme hot weather on the first day which reached 36 degrees in the afternoon. Another challenge was the sheer number of hills on the first day which proved difficult for some of the newer members – but the team finished strong over the final few days and finished ahead of schedule on the east coast.
Again, as with previous years, the team represented almost all the departments within TeleWare and raised a considerable amount of money for various charities including: Cancer Research UK (CRUK), Relay for Life local Cancer Support Group and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
After a well-deserved rest we will begin considering the route for next year’s challenge!
